February: The Month According to Tarot

Soul Cards by Kristine Fredheim

This month, potent and ultimately positive change is taking place. The supporting energies this month are helping us to step into improved ways of living, thinking, and being, and we may notice that our perception and awareness are heightened as never before. Our spiritual gifts may be increasing, especially as we do the inner work, which may mean releasing outdated beliefs and aligning with our truth in more powerful ways.

Part of aligning with what resonates may include taking up activities that bring us joy and inspiration. These may be solo activities or, as February is the second month and two is associated with partnerships, we may be collaborating with others on projects that bring excitement and fulfillment. The Emperor and the Ten of Pentacles appear to guide us to find our strength and are supporting us in reaching a solid rock upon which we can build.

Q1: Overall energies for the month of February: Ten of Pentacles and The Emperor

There is great abundance available to us, whether through a new client or employer, or through a business. Trusting the intuition and letting the heart lead us in new directions this month can pay off handsomely. Trusting new ideas may also be key to success. The Emperor can represent an energy (such as that of a business or new endeavor), person, or institution of some sort, and it is one that is steady, strong, solid, stable, reliable, and grounded. This is a rock we can build something magnificent upon, something that will always be there for us and that will provide.

Something may be getting ready to pay off big time. The best path forward is to release resistance, and get into the mindset and vibration of allowing so we can receive what’s ready to manifest. Strengthening in the knowing that we are powerful creators and that we are capable of receiving and living whatever we wish is like the secret alchemical formula that transforms energy into manifested things, situations, and circumstances. This month, we have the great opportunity to uplevel and to shift into steadier circumstances and move into what we’ve been asking for. We’re reminded that our power is in the now and we create from every now moment.

Q2: Week 1: King of Wands

What can we learn from the king? The King of Wands is a wise leader, powerful in his own right and fair, a masterful creator of his own reality. Like this figure, we can learn to first master our own will, our capacity as creators, and our ability to navigate the world by being strong and steady in the knowing of our power. From there, all things flow. The king carries inspired energy, the power and fire of the will, the freedom of choice, and the impetus to follow the desires of the heart.

This week, we could benefit from exploring what lights us up, what inspires us, what brings us joy. Making the decision to set aside even small increments of time to do what we love on a regular and consistent basis can add up to something much bigger down the line. Mastery is the result of focus, dedication, and continued practice. We can start the ball rolling on something that will become bigger and better over time. Confidence will take us far.

Q3: Week 2: Nine of Wands

This week, we can benefit from considering how far we’ve come. Looking at how far we’ve come can remind us of how much better things can be. Through perseverance and tenacity, we’ve overcome so much to be where we are today. The person we are now is the result of everything we’ve learned in the past and the culmination of our experiences. We are strong, perhaps stronger than we know, and we benefit from keeping our boundaries strong as well. It’s healthy to have strong boundaries, and it’s okay (and sometimes necessary) to say no. This week may find us assessing our obligations and duties against what our heart wants. The heart is our truest compass, and it will never steer us wrong.

How do we feel when we think about or do something? That feeling response is our barometer, the one that lets us know how in alignment (or not) something is for us. Once we’ve identified where we want to go, we can trust that our inner being, our source, is lining it up for us. There is something better for us, and it’s on its way to us the moment we ask for it. We ask vibrationally, and we do this all the time. Simply being happy opens the valve to let in what is ready to manifest for us. We are strong and powerful in our joy. Where the Nine of Wands is about determination and strength, it can also ask us to strengthen our knowing of who we are within so we can confidently move through the world from that place.

Q4: Week 3: Six of Pentacles

Sixes are concerned with harmony, balance, home, and family. This week’s guidance is to seek balance and harmony, and to place our attention on the home, relationships, and domestic concerns. Good news and new opportunities may be coming through this week, and may be something that fulfills our needs, hopes, dreams, or goals (and maybe all of the above!). This six indicates generosity and abundance, whether we are giving or receiving it. Giving and receiving joyfully always benefits us, and it’s almost certain that we will be both the giver and receiver at different points in our experience. Basking in appreciation for what we’ve given and received can help move the needle.

Giving and receiving encourages the flow of abundance, and releasing resources (such as spending money or selling a home) makes room for more resources to flow to us, as long as we are not blocking it with beliefs or resistance. Aligning with the more improved circumstances this week can benefit us greatly, whether that’s seeing and feeling ourselves in the situation or manifestation we wish to move into next or shoring up our beliefs so they match our desires. Simply through reaching alignment with our inner being, we can quickly receive everything we’ve been asking for, which often arrives through an inspired idea received in a place of alignment.

Q5: Week 4: The Hierophant

We may find ourselves shifting our beliefs and assessing or reassessing beliefs we’ve carried with us that are no longer resonant. Throughout life, we learn from the experiences we engage in, and these teach us and help us to move into new understandings that are more aligned with who we are now. This week, we may find that a spotlight is shining on what is out of resonance for us and what we’ve outgrown, whether those are relationships, practices, or ideologies. We may also be gaining traction on deeper understandings of self that aren’t necessarily so obvious.

Five, which is the number of The Hierophant, is associated with change, and there are changes taking place this week, perhaps shifts of great significance. Something may be hovering beneath the surface, unseen but felt. Our senses may be preparing to heighten, awareness is increasing, and transformations like those within a chrysalis are taking place, potent and hidden. Something may be preparing to surface from the subconscious for clearing and subsequent healing, and our spiritual gifts may be preparing to reach the next level of awakening, awareness, or activation.

Q6: Guidance for February: Ace of Swords and Death

New ideas bring clarity and an end to old, outdated beliefs, ways of thinking and living, and energies we have outgrown. Likewise, endings bring new clarity, expansion, understanding, and greater awareness—both awareness of ourselves and awareness of the universe and physical world in which we live. The Death card brings endings that are necessary and positive, although they may not always seem so great at the outset. As we traverse the path in the wake of what’s gone, we’ll find ourselves in a new realm of discovery and enlightened understanding that helps us to align to our deepest truth and wisdom.

Our guidance this month is to allow what happens to happen, to let go of the desire to control outcomes, to flow, and to take the path of least resistance. Understanding that we have already vibrationally asked for what we wish and that it is already becoming, as soon as we ask for it, can help us to lean into trust in stronger, more meaningful ways, and use our energy to focus more effectively, efficiently, meaningfully, productively, and fruitfully on living from every now moment, which is where our true power always is.

July: The Month According to Tarot

Soul Cards by Kristine Fredheim

This month is bookended by pages, signifiers of new beginnings, fresh starts, the beginning stages of a journey when we are filled with enthusiasm, excitement, and joy for what is to come. Each week of the month is ruled by a Major Arcana card, which could tell us that this month, we are going on a journey that is related to our life path or soul mission for this lifetime. We may be going on an inner journey or taking those first steps into a grand adventure.

Q1: What are the overall energies of July? Page of Wands

This month, we may be striking out on a new path, learning new skills and discovering how to apply them to our goals and our current circumstances. In many ways, we may be learning to navigate our lives anew, truly discovering our abilities as creators of our own realities and tapping into our innate penchant for moulding and shaping our lives as we wish. We may be coming into our true power for the first time or upleveling to new heights of sovereignty, freedom, and autonomy. When we embrace the newness with enthusiasm, we are opening ourselves up to the best opportunities and highest path. Energies of new beginnings and higher paths are available to us now. This month and beyond, we can choose to open our hearts to receive our highest manifestations and our highest guidance.

Q2: Week 1 energies: The Emperor

The Emperor is a grounded pillar of strength, a person or energy of sure-footedness and solid foundations. There is great support here for us, great love and wisdom. We also have this strength and knowledge within us, our own best and highest guidance. The Emperor can signify a guide or supportive energies shepherding us along on our path, bringing us to a place in which our goals are made manifest, our dreams writ large across our lives, fully available to us in every given moment. This card can indicate a force of stability, perhaps an employer or source of support, either coming into being or strengthening in ways that benefit us. This could be us gaining more solid footing in certain areas of our lives. It could also be our strongholds (career, finances, emotional support, relationships) becoming more established and firmly rooted.

Q3: Week 2 energies: Temperance

Temperance arrives this week to encourage balance and prudence. As part of the Major Arcana, this card can connect to our life path and soul mission, or may indicate karma and karmic events. This could mean that we are peacemakers or ones who bring harmony, or that it is part of our path to facilitate this; or, we may find ourselves in this role this week. Peace, balance, and harmonious resolutions are indicated, as well as support that brings us peace. Anytime we encounter conflict, a peaceful stance and focus on unity promises the best possible outcome. This may be a week in which we need to maintain balance so that nothing spins off kilter; this could be in any aspect, such as finances, career, or relationships. We can nurture our own energy this week to bring ourselves to a stable, harmonious, and peaceful place so that we can facilitate this in the outside world and in those around us, encouraging peaceful resolutions in all relationships.

Q4: Week 3 energies: Strength

Anytime we need to call on our strength, we have the ability to tap into an endless reserve that is within each one of us. We may be remembering our own strength or discovering it for the first time. Each one of us has what it takes to live our best life and walk our highest path. The figure on the Strength card has a lemniscate, or an infinity sign, above their head, signifying our eternal nature—a reminder that we are eternal and we are divine. Because of who we are, we hold infinite strength and wisdom within us. This card may be appearing this week to gently encourage us to be still within ourselves, to look deeply at who we are and tune into our true nature. This can be a journey, a rediscovery of the authentic self, the divine self, and the truth within us. Once we make this connection, we are fortified to handle, with grace and powerful strength, whatever we may encounter.

Q5: Week 4 energies: The Hierophant

The Hierophant may be calling us this week to commit or recommit to a daily spiritual practice. This could be meditation, grounding, walks in nature, journaling, or anything that forges our connection to the larger universe of which we are a part. This card can also call us to examine our beliefs and perhaps release those long-held ones and anything that does not serve us; it can also ask us to examine our own hearts. Who are we now and what beliefs serve us where we are, given what we have learned and experienced? We may feel called to rewrite our beliefs, to forge new paths within our own minds and hearts that support the path we are currently on. This card can also appear for those who are meant to be spiritual leaders, wayshowers, lightworkers, or lightbringers: This is your time to shine. It’s time to light up, to activate your gifts and step into your true calling. Trust your heart, your support, and your intuition. Trust the wisdom within you.

Q6: Overall guidance for July: Page of Pentacles

This page can show us learning new skills, preparing to walk a new path, or change careers. We could be getting ready to step foot into a new adventure or perhaps just learning to walk again, figuratively speaking. This could mean re-entering the workforce after some time away, and taking this opportunity now to prepare ourselves in the best way possible, by learning, training, and preparing in ways that support our highest and best outcomes.

As guidance for the month, the Page of Pentacles asks us to prepare, to set goals and intentions, and to take the necessary steps we need to reach our goals. Something new is in the works. The journey of each week in this month is held by a Major Arcana card. Something big is being prepared for us, and when we step up to support our own preparation, we are working in concert with our best and highest outcomes. We are asked especially to allow ourselves to feel all the joy and enthusiasm that is part of this new becoming. We are capable of catapulting into the stratosphere, and all it takes is that first step. Let’s just keep going and believe in ourselves; let’s believe in the journey.

March: A Reading for the Collective

Here we are, already in March! This year seems to be zipping by at lightning speed. With the first day of March being preceded by a leap day, we are hurtling toward powerful expansion, supported by universal energies to connect to our truth and our divine nature, and to stand firmly in our empowerment.

With so much exciting energy flowing all around us, I felt moved to do a reading for the collective for this month. The three Major Arcana cards that appear for three out of the four full weeks in March indicate that significant changes are happening that are life-altering and possibly karmic.

Q1 (Ten of Cups): What is the overall energy of March?

This month will be filled with joy and emotional fulfillment. This card also says that feeling into our joy brings us further expansion. This month will bring harmonious changes and developments. Abundance and celebrations are highlighted. There is much to be grateful for.

Q2 (The Emperor): Week 1 energy (March 1-7):

The Emperor tells of material success and leadership. He is in a powerful position but he is wise and fair, intelligent and responsible. He represents solidity and security in the material, financial, and business/career sectors. He can represent an authority figure in your life who impacts you in a positive, supportive way. This can indicate moving up in your career, getting a raise, a new job, or a successful outcome for you in matters of law.

Q3 (Three of Pentacles): Week 2 energy (March 8-14):

Flowing nicely from The Emperor, the Three of Pentacles shows you excelling in your work, receiving recognition for a job well done, and achieving rewards and satisfaction. You are skilled, and your work is being recognized and bearing fruit. You enjoy expressing yourself through creativity, you enjoy what you do, and others enjoy what you create. Your work and ideas are profitable and this week, you could see an increase in income and more work coming in.

Q4 (The High Priestess): Week 3 energy (March 15-21):

The High Priestess is depicted in the Rider-Waite deck sitting between two pillars, one black and the other white, signifying duality–that of the inner and outer self, the material world and the spiritual, light and dark. She encourages us to look within, to tune to our own perception and inner guidance, to examine our hidden talents, and consider what may be coming to light. Something is gestating that will soon emerge into being. This week, spending time in meditation, contemplation, and journaling will pay off in meaningful ways.

Q5 (The Hierophant): Week 4 energy (March 22-28):

Like The Emperor, The Hierophant is in a position of supreme leadership, but he is a spiritual authority where The Emperor is a figure of worldly power. The Hierophant can represent a guide figure, traditions, or a religious institution that will play a significant role in this week’s unfolding. Upright, this card indicates you are benefiting in some way or are being supported by institutions, that you are ascending to a position of leadership within such an institution, or that you are or are becoming a spiritual leader, teacher, or authority.

Q6 (Eight of Wands): Guidance from the Universe:

This card says keep moving! You are going places and life is rising up to meet you. Embrace all of the excitement and new experiences this action-packed month has for you. This is a busy time and you may even take a whirlwind trip or two. Seize the day; seize the moment! Expect rapid-fire changes, sudden advancements and progress, split-second decisions, and opportunities coming to you from out of the blue. Everything is going really well for you! This promises to be an exciting, inspirational month. Flow with the changes.
