April is a magical month, ushering in positive new changes and energetic freedom. Rapid manifestations are imminent, and we best serve our highest good by keeping our thoughts positive and believing in ourselves and our greatest potential. We are guided to be confident, to know ourselves as the powerful creators that we are. The strong message this month is to stay positively focused on our goals and embrace the changes that are coming. The presence of The Magician and The Fool bring a crystal-clear message: Now is a powerful time of creating a new life and manifesting something truly magnificent. The new season has ushered in a brand new cycle. Positive change is truly in the air; can you feel it?
Q1: What is the overall theme of April? The Magician
You are the creator of your life, the weaver of your fate, the master of your own destiny. You hold the power to create the life you desire through your focus and attention. This month, we are working on manifesting in bigger, more expanded ways than we have before, and the energies are supporting us in our work as manifestations become more rapid. We get to experience the thrill of creation. Like an artist bringing a scene to life with a paintbrush, using the vast array of colors at their disposal, we weave, create, and build through where we choose to focus. We are guided to choose our thoughts carefully and become ever more mindful of how we see ourselves, what we are visualizing, what we choose to believe for ourselves, and our expectations. When we find our thoughts don’t line up with where we want to be, we have the opportunity to shift them in that moment. Every moment is a new opportunity; every moment holds vast potential.
Q2: Week 1: Seven of Cups
Sometimes a card of illusion and truth, the Seven of Cups can guide us to practice discernment—something we should always do—but this month especially, working in concert with The Magician, the Seven of Cups brings an even stronger message to pay attention to our thoughts and guide them so they align with our goals. This can take practice, but once we’ve made the decision to be mindful, we can catch ourselves when our thinking doesn’t align with our hopes and dreams, and then choose to focus instead on more positive aspects. With consistent practice, we begin to see results. Seeing our world in a positive light becomes easier and more natural the more we raise our vibration. Doing things that bring us happiness this week will help us to be in a place of receiving and lend us an easy ability to focus, when we choose to do so, in a place of positive expectation. This is also a card of visualization and believing in our dreams. This week, spending consistent time in visualization, perhaps a little each day, will prove especially rewarding.
Q3: Week 2: The Chariot
If we’ve been putting in the work that The Magician and the Seven of Cups have guided us to do, this week may find us moving quickly and needing to keep our focus on our goals to ensure we reach our destination, making changes as needed so we stay on track. The Chariot represents a fast-moving energy that can bring rapid changes and possibly even conflict that is beneficial for us to address early on so it doesn’t careen out of control unchecked. The conflict can be in relationships or within ourselves. We may be working to resolve internal struggles. This brings to mind the story of the two wolves; the wolf we feed—whether it represents positivity or negativity—is the one that will thrive and become dominant.
Q4: Week 3: The Eight of Swords
We may be trapped in a prison of our own making or we could be bound by forces outside of our control. Regardless of the situation, the one thing we can always control is our own minds. We may need to bring our focus back around to the positive so we can let go of whatever is occurring in the world around us and focus instead on the garden within. The garden is something we can create within our minds. Do we allow weeds to take over or do we pull them? This is a week to do inner work, as we face, heal, and clear what does not serve us (the weeds). When we weed the garden, we make room for the roses and the beautiful, thriving colors that illuminate our inner landscape. No matter what is going on outside, when we hold the light within, it will light up our entire lives. Our own light can break the strongest of bonds and free us from what may seem like the most impossible situations.
Q5: Week 4: Four of Cups
Something is being offered to us, but if our eyes are closed or we are otherwise turned away from possibilities that don’t fit the container we expect them to arrive in, we may be missing something of tremendous benefit. This week, we may need to take the blinders off so we can see with clarity. The Magician’s influence over this month reminds us that we create our own realities, and that we are always creating, moment by moment, with our every thought and vibration. The Four of Cups can indicate that we are bored, stagnant, uninspired, or not being challenged in the ways we wish to be. Sometimes doing something new or changing the scenery can offer fresh perspective. Where fours are numbers of stability and cups resonate with the realm of emotions, this card can also indicate emotional stability. We may be finding it, or grounding in it, seeking a stable place after a time of imbalance. We are guided to tap into inspiration and emotional harmony, and to find the joy within.
Q6: Guidance from the Universe for April: The Fool
Embrace fresh starts, welcome change, and frolic in the joy of new possibility. The world is vast and exciting, and holds much in store for those who are open to its treasures. The Universe is asking us to open our arms and our hearts wide to our own potential and to throw out the old blueprints; they are vestiges of a former life and have no grounding in our current reality. It’s time to toss away old ideas and limitations and embrace the freedom that is ours for the receiving. Forget everything you thought you knew—these are unprecedented times. Allow yourself to dream big and believe in your dreams with the open-hearted, pure belief of a child. Let yourself dream up the best reality you can imagine, for yourself and the collective. The world is magical and full of wonder; it only ceases to be so when we stop believing in the wondrous, limitless possibilities that are available to us all.
The cards below, combined with the Mercury retrograde period lasting from January 30 through February 21, reveal a month that begins with intense shadow work and healing. Midway through the month, there is a major shift, a breakthrough moment. Like welcome rays parting gloomy clouds, The Sun card appears in the third week of this month—the last week of the retrograde—promising great success and achievement. Our guidance is to flow with changes rather than resisting them, to face our shadows and do the inner work rather than burying it or sweeping it under the rug. Doing the work—which may include healing or continuing to work diligently on your unique journey as you are guided—allows the sun to come out. The full moon in Virgo near the end of this month encourages us to find balance, an aspect that is supported by The High Priestess, who comes in as the overall guidance for the month.
Q1: What is the overall energy of February?Justice & The Devil
Both of these cards are indicated for the overall energies this month, and both fell out of the deck together in answer to this question (Justice slid over The Devil). This is a strong indicator that justice is coming and kicking out the energies represented by The Devil—sweeping and clearing out darkness and transmuting it, as well as any low-vibrational energies and anything that does not belong here. A mass energetic sweep has been going on for a while, clearing out heavy and non-resonant energies from this planet, from everywhere they have been embedded, and some have been there for many, many aeons. The great purge and clearing is still taking place, and we may have been caught in the crossfire. Some of us may have had attachments that have been with us since birth, and it is time for those to clear, along with anything that is ambient around us. There is nothing to fear, as the light is infinitely more powerful than the dark, and we are surrounded by beings of the highest light who are protecting us and assisting in the clearing of energies that are not of the light.
In all aspects of life, justice is being served. Karmic justice is especially highlighted now. We are reminded that we can break the cycles of karma through forgiveness and letting go. When we release the desire for retribution, we free ourselves. Justice is coming in answer to our asking, both as individuals and collectively. This card combination says that right will win, and reminds us that the light is dominant on this planet, and is continuing to increase despite outward appearances. Anything that is not of the light is no more than a blip on the radar, such is its smallness. When we find ourselves feeling heavy, sorry for ourselves, and weighed down with emotions, regret, and anything that does not make us feel joyful, we are asked to turn around our perspective immediately to focus on what is good. We get what we focus on; where thoughts go, energy flows. What we put our attention, energy, and focus into is what will manifest in our lives. This duo also indicates that any unfairness in your life will be resolved in just and fair ways.
Q2: Week 1 energy:Five of Wands
Kicking off the month, the Five of Wands has Mercury retrograde written all over it. Wands are associated with the will, and this card in particular can point to confusion, arguments, competition, disagreements, and battles of the ego. When we are aware that a particular energy is imminent, we can take measures to prepare ourselves to meet it in the best and highest ways possible. This week we will benefit from gathering our patience ahead of time and setting the intentions to practice kindness, compassion, understanding—and especially patience. Setting these intentions first thing in the morning and practicing a few moments of deep breathing before beginning work or leaving the house can also be beneficial. This week, others may simply want or need to be heard or simply to feel heard; letting others vent while keeping our own boundaries strong may bring improvements to the overall situation and may give us the opportunity to model strength, patience, and compassion. This can powerfully deflate any brashness borne out of a bruised ego or that comes from a place of misalignment or pain. We can always choose how we respond to others, and this week may call for us to be masterful communicators and to have the patience of the saints.
Before we even get out of bed, we can set intentions for each day. An example of this is: I bless all of my communications with patience, kindness, truth, integrity, compassion, peace, clarity, and pure, positive energy. This day, I will make powerful forward progress on things that matter to me. This will be a wonderful day. I am always patient, always kind, and always aligned to my best and highest possibilities. I will inspire others and contribute in positive, meaningful ways to every interaction of which I am a part. Making a habit of setting daily intentions can powerfully impact your days in positive ways. Watch for distractions this week; try not to let anything throw you off course, and recognize when something isn’t worth addressing right away. If you are on a roll, for example, or in the flow state and message notifications go off, maybe it’s better to ignore them. This week is a great week to set devices to Do Not Disturb mode before beginning periods of work or focused concentration. Most things do not need to be responded to right away.
Q3: Week 2 energy:Five of Pentacles
This card can have different meanings depending on individual circumstances. Sometimes it is encouragement to save your resources and spend wisely. Other times it is encouragement to shift into an abundance mindset. Regardless of where we are, changing our thinking to one of appreciation for the resources we do have is always beneficial. Being in an abundance mindset doesn’t always mean feeling into gratitude for material things. We can enter this state through appreciating anything—the sunshine, the beauty of the natural world, our friendships, animals, our talents, music, the breath in our lungs. The more we get into this mindset, the more we are opening ourselves up to receiving greater abundance in all areas. Appreciating beauty brings us more beauty. Feeling joy allows us to receive so many great things. This week is all about perspective and what we choose to focus on. The world is full of ingredients and choices. What will you choose to focus on this week? What are you allowing into your thoughts? What are you giving your attention to?
Q4: Week 3 energy:The Sun
The happiest card in the deck, The Sun shines the brightest of all. As welcome as a cheerful, warm day after a long period of rain, The Sun brings fulfillment, happiness, and the fullness of all things bright and beautiful. Expect great things this week. We can find tremendous meaning in even the smallest aspects of life that have the power to light us up with joy. This week may find us receiving rewards, achievements, new opportunities, unexpected or long-hoped-for resources, great inspiration, and above all, an understanding of what truly matters in life. However we get to joy, we are guided to stay in that joyful state as long as possible, to allow ourselves to feel it in all its glory. This makes us a magnet for success and manifestations. Vitality, great happiness, pleasure, clarity, and success are all indicated this week.
This week may bring great shifts in perspective for many people, as well as major life changes that align us with our highest path and purpose or open up new doors of possibility where before we couldn’t see a way forward. It all opens up for you this week. Notice even the smallest changes and shifts; tremendous, life-changing events are not always illustrated on billboards in big, bold letters—sometimes they are as slight as the wind generated from a butterfly’s wings, yet somehow contain the power of the Universe. This week something is subtly (or not-so-subtly) set in motion for future revelation or it may come tumbling into your life with all the force of a giant, happy boulder. However it appears, it’s time to let the sun shine in! This week, heart openings are indicated that can bring about significant healing and open you up to new levels of happiness such as you have never experienced before. Remaining open to possibilities without placing limits or expectations on them will allow them to flow to you; be sure you are ready to receive what is ready for you
Q5: Week 4 energy:King of Swords
The King of Swords sometimes represents a lawyer, judge, or decision-maker, which is interesting in light of the Justice card that sets the overall theme for the month. This king is ruled by fairness and objectivity. He (or she) is wise and intelligent, fair and analytical, and can sometimes also represent a scientist, professor, or a leader of some kind. As the card for the final week in the month, this shows us concluding the month with a wrapping-up of anything that has been awaiting alignment, justice, judgment, or a setting to rights. The upright king indicates that any decisions needing to be made will be made with the fairness and objectivity this card represents. Trust the king’s skill and incisiveness as you would trust a wise and just leader.
This week marks the ending of the Mercury retrograde period (on Sunday, so Monday begins the week for us free and clear, although we are still in the retrograde shadow period until March 13). Be sure you have all your papers in order, documents at hand that you may need, and that you have read and understand all legalities and have otherwise done your due diligence when it comes to paperwork and the signing of documents. It may be best to wait until at least after the 21st to sign any contracts or enter into any engagements. When signing anything in the shadow period, be sure to read everything carefully (twice) and gain clarification on anything you don’t fully understand. This king gives a go-ahead though, when the timing is right. Try not to rush or force processes, but to flow and trust divine timing. The King of Swords also guides us to be discerning in all of our communications and to think before we speak, and when we speak, to speak with clarity, honesty, fairness, truth, and objectivity.
Q6: Guidance from the Universe for February: The High Priestess
This month, throughout the month, tune in. Trust yourself. Connect to the divine feminine energies and to the divine feminine power that you hold within. We all have both masculine and feminine energies within us, and this month, you may find your greatest power in striking balance between the two. When this card appears, however, its focus is especially on the sorceress within, the powerful feminine energies that come from the Goddess. This card can also indicate that something is hidden that will be coming forth in divine timing, but at this time, it is unknown to you. Things may not be as they seem, which is why it is so important, also given the retrograde, to tune into our intuition and instincts before making decisions or moving forward with plans. Be careful of what you say yes to, both in spoken and written words and energetically through vibration. Above all though, trust yourself. Love yourself enough to go within and attune to your inner power.
This card can also be guidance to face our shadows and to do the very important work of healing, clearing, and releasing. This month may bring shake-ups and surprises that, while they have a positive result and a happy outcome, have the power to shift our perspective. The High Priestess can also point to creativity, dreams, spirituality, and the imagination. The imagination is a powerful ally to us when we are working on creating and manifesting, and in rewriting and rebuilding our world into something that aligns with our intentions. This card reminds us of our power to create through visualization and also encourages us to look to our inner world, as we may find great insight there. What are our dreams trying to tell us? What messages does our higher self have? When we tune into the heart, what do we find? Regardless of who we are, we each have a rich inner life that is ready for us to tap into. Entire universes reside within every human heart, just waiting to be explored.
Six months of 2021 are represented by Major Arcana cards, which indicate karmic, life-changing, large-scale, and sometimes fated events. Think soul contracts, life purpose, and soul mission. But that is only half of the story. The rest of the year is balanced out by pip cards, which tell the story of our everyday lives. In these small moments lie choice, and choice lies with us. We are strongly guided to tune into and strengthen our connection with our intuition so that we can exercise our free will and sovereignty, and make the truest and best choices for ourselves without being swayed by outside influences or the will or opinions of others. Here’s what the cards have to say for each month ahead:
January:Five of Cups reversed
In the wake of an emotionally challenging situation (or year—ahem, 2020), we are picking up the pieces or just opening our eyes to see what lies scattered about. As we gather our senses and come back to ourselves, we look around and assess the situation, our emotions, our feelings, and consider what is whole and what lies broken. We have choices to make. How to move forward? What to mend and what to walk away from? We are guided to take time to ourselves this month for self-care and nurturing, and to really take a close, unflinching look at what serves us best right now and for the month ahead. Take your time and go within. Rest, heal, dream, and envision your brightest future. What is part of that future, and what is not? As the first month of the year, January is a time of new beginnings. This is the time to welcome new opportunities and set our sights on where we want to be and what we want to create. This is the time to consider how you want to reshape your life. Remember, you are the potter.
February:Wheel of Fortune
Now that we are clear on what we want, here comes the hand of fate ready to deliver what is due. Being that this card is in the upright position, it signifies positive, happy changes that bring momentous outcomes. Get ready for-life changing opportunities and events this month. This second month of the year brings energies of two—i.e., partnership, cooperation, and maybe even love, either rekindled or new. The Wheel of Fortune is also the number 10 card in the Major Arcana; ten brings energies of conclusions, cycles endings, completion, and fulfillment. With endings come new beginnings. This month may usher in things we never even realized we wanted as they come dropping out of our vortex and catapulting into our lives. New jobs, businesses, marriage proposals, and major life changes are all indicated this month. And remember: the less your resistance, the more you can receive. It’s time to get happy, as our joy and positive vibrations attract to us all that is good and wonderful.
March:Nine of Wands
In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, the Nine of Wands shows a figure, guarded and bandaged, holding a large staff as if in protection. He is wary and watchful as he protects his battlement. He has been knocked about and knows better than anyone the importance of self-protection. This month, stand your guard, stand up for yourself, reclaim your power, stand in your power, and protect what is yours. Say no. Speak up. Channel your inner warrior. You have what it takes to succeed, and you are stronger than you realize. This card also guides us to be wise, to be kind yet strong, compassionate yet powerful. Being a spirit warrior does not entail the old 3D version of the bloody, angry warrior charging ahead with a weapon of destruction; we are moving beyond and above that into intelligence, strength, personal empowerment, and wisdom. We are kind and loving, yet smart enough to know how to protect our energy. This month, tune into your powerful inner strength—you have a deep wellspring of it that lies within. Call on Archangel Michael for strength and protection.
April:The High Priestess
The High Priestess is powerful and sovereign, and guides us to tap into our inner power and sovereignty. This wise leader first leads herself. She is aligned with the truth of who she is, her divine nature, and is keenly attuned to her intuition. This card bears the number two, which further strengthens the energies of co-creation between our inner being and our earthly self. Like The Magician, which appears later this year in October, she creates her own reality and holds the power of transformation as she draws from a vast palette of resources and ingredients. In contrast to The Magician, The High Priestess creates from a soul level, from the divine aspects of herself as she attunes to her power within and draws from her inner resources. While The Magician does draw on his inner power, he tends to be more outwardly focused in his creations and manifestations. Tuning in through meditation and committing to the spiritual practices that resonate with you can summon forth hidden abilities and spiritual gifts that are ready to expand within you. As we look within, we find vast reserves of inner power, our innate gifts and abilities, and the authenticity and truth of who we are at a soul level. This figure of the divine feminine asks us to find the magic within.
May:Six of Cups
This happy, nostalgic card indicates peace, balance, joy, and generosity of heart. This month may bring an abundance of emotions in the form of emotional renewal, happiness, and a discovery of the joy we each hold in our hearts. We may have reason to celebrate this month, and we are guided to remember our past successes and know that we are capable of achieving that and so much more. Our relationships bring happiness and are a reminder that we are never alone and that we have a wellspring of support to drawn on. Our loved ones, family, and friends can be a source of support for us. While our truest and best support comes from within, this is a month of happy connections, new and renewed, that brings camaraderie and fun. Where we created happy memories in the past, we can create new and happier ones in our present and future. When we set the intention to constantly improve and elevate in every way in our lives, the universe conspires in our favor to deliver what we have asked for. It is never too early or too late to seek improvements in life. As long as we have breath in our lungs, we can be happy and fulfilled, and we can realize our greatest dreams.
June:Eight of Cups
The Eight of Cups shows us turning away from something—whether a relationship, a situation, a locale, an ideology… Whatever it is, it is no longer working for us. We will know when it is time to walk away, as we can often sense energetically when something is no longer worth our time and effort. Have we put in more than we got out of it? Is it lopsided or out of balance? Are the other parties doing their part? These are some of the questions we may find ourselves asking this month. In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, this card shows an empty space where, presumably, one cup had been before. We feel intuitively and emotionally when something is missing and we are guided to trust ourselves to know when it is time to try to find it and put it back where it was, to seek it elsewhere, or to look for something new altogether. This is very much a card of letting go and walking away into what is possibly the unknown. Wherever we go, when we carry the intention of honoring our highest good and seeking better for ourselves, we are establishing the energetic foundation for what will come next. It is important for us to get clear on what we do want before we walk away; writing it down grounds the energy and takes the concept from thought to manifest form or physical creation and begins a stronger momentum that allows it to grow so that it can show up in our physical experience.
July:Three of Swords
After last month’s decision to turn away from what wasn’t working, we now find ourselves doing the inner work of feeling the pain of the situation we have left and processing it. The number seven indicates shifts as we move from one energy to another. Keeping our focus clear and strong and keeping our eyes on what we want will be our guiding light this month. The phrase You have to feel it to heal it comes to mind. It serves us best to do this inner work now and clear it all out so we can create space for joy, happiness, and positivity, and welcome better situations. When we hold onto energies that do not serve us, when we do not do the work of processing and clearing the painful bits, they stay there and inform our vibration, which attracts more of the same to us. The only way out is through, in this case. Our guidance this month is to do whatever is needed—cry, journal, meditate, take salt baths, go for long walks in nature, dip in the sea, rest, engage in self-care, put on a favorite record and dance with abandon, create art—or all of it. On the other side of this, we will be a clear vessel that can hold the light. But we are a work in progress. It can benefit us this month to remember that healing isn’t a one-off project; it’s a lifetime commitment, and the results are so very worth it. We are so worth it.
From this period of processing and healing emotional wounds, we now begin to summon up our inner strength. Within each one of us is a deep wellspring of strength and power that comes from love, which is the strongest force in the universe. This eighth card of the Major Arcana aligns with the eighth month of the year. The number eight is, visually, the lemniscate, or infinity symbol, turned on its side. The lemniscate is a reminder of eternal life, while the number eight represents abundance and prosperity of all kinds, not just in the material realm. This makes eight a number of infinite abundance. This month, we have the Lion‘s Gate Portal, which is active from July 26 through August 12, and reaches its peak on August 8 (8/8). Get ready to absorb the powerful energies from Sirius, which beams in its magic during this time. This is a potent time of manifesting abundance and clearing our energy so we can make more room to hold the light and receive more of the abundance that is our birthright. This month, we are rewarded by setting strong intentions and writing down our goals, dreams, and desires. This month’s guidance is to sit in meditation, visualizing yourself living your desired life and achieving your goals while feeling how you would feel if you were living that life; this will help it manifest more quickly. Try doing this for 20 minutes each day beginning on July 26, or throughout the entire month of August, and see what unfolds. This card is also related to courage, persistence and determination, and overcoming weakness.
September:Queen of Wands
A card of fruitfulness and abundance, this Queen is the master of all that the suit of wands represents—will, passion, fire, drive, excitement, and manifestational abilities. The Queen of Wands knows how to use these attributes to her greatest benefit, and does so in a loving way. Compassionate, generous, loving, and kind, this queen is a masterful creator. She also represents creativity, which is linked to creation, as what we make is linked to our will. Getting creative this month and making things—whether related to the arts, business, plans, travel, or goals—can link us into this energy of manifestation. Similarly, when we reach the flow state through creative activities, we open ourselves to receive what is for our highest good. This card carries a generative force that reminds us of our ability to shape our own realities. Following last month’s Lion’s Gate Portal, this month we are guided to get into the receiving mode by opening our hearts and allowing ourselves to experience joy, fun, happiness, and any high-vibrational emotions. Getting into the flow state also helps us to be in receiving mode. The seeds of intention we have previously planted are getting ready to sprout, or they may be ready to bear fruit. This month is the time of the traditional harvest, and is a great time of receiving.
The Magician is depicted in the Rider-Waite-Smith deck as having all of the tools of the trade at his disposal. He works with the forces of earth, wind, water, and fire, symbolized respectively by the pentacle, the athame, the chalice, and the wand. These elemental energies are forces of creation that are all around us, and that we can work with anytime we wish. Crystals represent the earth, feathers and incense the air, candles fire, and salt baths or goblets water; these tools aid us in working with each element. And we all have these elements within ourselves: the body is earth and contains water, the breath in our lungs is air, and our will or spirit is fire. They support and strengthen our work through their aligned energy, but ultimately, all we really need is our intention. This month we are strongly supported in our creations, in manifesting, and in taking outward action (like submitting resumes, writing down goals, drawing up business plans, and so on) to add momentum to what we are working toward. We are guided to remember that integrity is important in all we do, and that energy intended to harm another comes back on us multifold. Live and let live is a good motto to live by; we are asked to concern ourselves with our own energy, life, practice, and creations first and foremost, and focus on expanding into the highest and best versions of ourselves. This card bears the number one, which aligns with the energies of focus, manifestations, new beginnings, and fresh starts. We are supported this month and at all times in setting the intention to elevate ourselves to higher and better ways of being, thinking, and doing; when we set this intention, the universe backs us all the way.
In the upright position, Justice signals a happy conclusion to something in question, whether it is directly related to legal issues or to matters concerning the heart, happiness, health, or well-being. This card bears the number 11, which brings a gateway energy through which we pass to enter a new experience, phase, or cycle. The 11 energy is especially strong, as it comes through so synchronously on the eleventh month of the year. Something karmic or life-changing may be taking place for you, and the universe may be tipping the scales in your favor or making adjustments to create balance. You may be passing into a new situation that represents an energetic upleveling, as you may have successfully fulfilled a contract, agreement, or obligation of some kind. The Justice card also carries energies of receiving karmic rewards and justice being served. If you have been struggling with a situation, feel you have been treated unfairly, or have had enough of the same lessons over and over (i.e., repeating themes and cycles throughout your life), give this to the highest guidance of the universe and ask the angels and your allies for support and clarity. Requesting an end to lessons you feel you have truly learned can benefit you now. On the other hand, there may be something you are still missing that keeps bringing the same cycle around; ask for clarity and guidance on closing it out for good so you can learn what you need to learn and move on into better things.
December: The Sun
This is the happiest card in the deck, and it shows our efforts paying off. The Sun bears the number 19, which indicates the completion and fulfillment of a cycle (possibly karmic, as this is a Major Arcana card), which is now being brought to its happiest outcome. Expect brighter days ahead and a surge of confidence, inspiration, vitality, and achievements. Fame, fortune, accolades, success, and bright, happy new beginnings are all indicated now. Honors and goals fulfilled, the manifestation of dreams long dreamt, and the physical evidence of circumstances long desired are now entering your experience in the best possible way. You are receiving clarity and new understandings like never before. This card also indicates that light is being shed on new subjects, bringing you information and wisdom that can be life-changing and may open up new paths and opportunities. You could be gaining a newfound sense of self as you find a sense of surety, peace, profound joy, and deep satisfaction that will illuminate your days to come and the year ahead.
True to form, the eleventh month of one of the most transformative years in history promises more change. The number eleven represents a gateway energy; the two ones side by side look like a door, and eleven symbolizes the transitory mechanism as one reality transitions into another, or one type of energy transmutes into another, higher form. All of the cards representing the energies for each week in this month are Major Arcana. This tells of karmic, life-changing, and fated events. Some of these events may have to do with our life path, purpose, and soul mission. We can expect powerful changes—sea changes—to happen for us this month. Some may be unexpected, and some may be less than welcome, but know that all is a part of everything working out for your highest good.
Q1: What is the overall energy of November?Seven of Wands
The Seven of Wands is a reminder to stand strong and remain courageous. It tells us that we have what it takes to be victorious as we face any challenges head-on and fight for what we believe in. When we push through, one step at a time, toward our goals, always focusing on the outcome we want and keeping it in mind, we ensure that we are steadily getting closer to achieving our desired results. We can accomplish anything we desire with perseverance, and belief in ourselves is a powerful ingredient that commands our success.
Know that you have what it takes to win any battles and to overcome every challenge, and that you can always draw from the well of inner strength that comes from the magnificent, limitless part of who you really are. And you are never fighting alone; you can always call on your allies in the nonphysical for their support. Your team in spirit is always there for you, but because they cannot interfere with your free will, you have to ask them for their help. Know that you are divinely loved and supported, and you are never alone. Your team of light is always on your side, always loving you, ready and willing to help when you call on them.
Q2: Week 1 energy:The Devil
This card signifies the old structures of control, and the darkness and chaos that is rising to the surface to be cleared. Light is already dominant on our planet, although if we are just looking at what isn’t working, we can miss seeing what is working (and working beautifully). This earth continues on its trajectory, and we stay grounded to it, living our lives and continuing to manifest, create, and seed new desires as we set intentions for improved conditions and continue to co-create a better life and a better world for ourselves and others.
We won’t get what we want by focusing on what we don’t want, and this card is a reminder, together with the Seven of Wands, to summon the great strength and courage that is within every one of us to stay focused on the positive, even in the midst of the darkness. We are asked to always look to the light, to celebrate what is good and joyful and happy. We are asked to keep love in our hearts, to look on others with compassion, and to realize that we are all one. Separation is an illusion. As more and more of us focus on improved conditions and celebrate the beauty in our lives and everything that is worth appreciating, we strengthen and give energy and momentum to the light.
Q3: Week 2 energy: The World
As the final card in the Major Arcana, The World is a card of victory, success, and congratulations. We have been on a journey that may have been long and arduous, and this card shows us reaching a place of enlightenment. This card is a reminder that we are all in this together. When we lift one another up, we rise much faster. Our world is reaching the end of a cycle, and in our own lives, we may see this play out as certain aspects come to a close and new ones begin to flow in. This card represents fulfillment and the mastery of lessons. We have reached new understandings, gained significant wisdom, and have come to know ourselves on deeper and deeper levels. The more we understand ourselves, the better we can understand our place in the world, serve others, and fulfill our life path and purpose in more meaningful, long-lasting ways.
Q4: Week 3 energy:The Chariot
The Chariot showed up for us last month in week 2, and its energy carries over into this month—it’s go time, this card seems to indicate. We are still being guided to stay the course and keep our focus on where we are going, not where we have been, and certainly not on where we don’t want to be. We are being asked to relentlessly keep our eyes on our desired destination so that we can be sure to reach it without straying from the path. Let’s continue to move ahead, move up, move forward, and honor and acknowledge our progress and accomplishments along the way. As we look around us in gratitude, appreciating the things we like about our lives and circumstances, we invite more of that energy—whether abundance, joy, or fulfillment—to flow to us.
This card can also indicate that things are moving quickly. Travel, moving, and transportation may be lining up for some of you. The Chariot hints, too, at opposing forces; we may need to stay strong and stick to our ethics, principles, and ideals yet remain attuned to our intuition so that we are not stubbornly holding onto something that doesn’t actually serve us just because it once did. Part of the process of growth is expanding beyond old beliefs, habits, and ways of thinking and doing, and sometimes that means walking away from what isn’t serving you anymore. It is important to know when to stick to our principles and when to let go of something and expand our minds and our energies into greater awareness. Sometimes this card can indicate a conflict within; the opposing forces may be between old beliefs and new ones coming in. Spending time in thought and in journaling can help you sort it out. When this card relates to willpower, you may need to take control over a situation or circumstances in your life. Like the Seven of Wands—and The Chariot is the seventh card in the Major Arcana—it can be guidance to stand strong and to fight for what you believe in.
Q5: Week 4 energy: The Hermit
After the battle, we go within. The Hermit can be like a healing chamber. This week, we are asked to practice self-care and introspection. Journaling, walks in nature, and time spent in the sun can be beneficial. If the battles we have been fighting this month have been mental or emotional, we need to take time to rest our minds this week and process what we’ve experienced to gain further clarity and understanding. The Hermit is a wise one who represents solitude and inner wisdom. Spending time alone to regroup and gather your thoughts will help you. The Hermit can also represent a guide figure, like a guardian, angel, or guide, and seeing this card can be a nudge or a reminder to call on your allies to assist you with whatever you need, whether that is healing, clarity, or emotional support.
Q6: Guidance from the Universe for November:Queen of Swords
Make no mistake—this queen speaks her mind and she comes to advise us this month to cut through the bull, to speak our minds, and to be done with playing small, once and for all. Those days are past, and we are advised to never, ever look back. She comes to say, remember who you are. Speak your truth. Stand in your light. Stay strong and be relentlessly positive, no matter what you are facing. You have what it takes to succeed in all that you do. Know that you have an inner power you can draw on, and an inner strength the likes of which would amaze you. We are powerful, at the core of who we are, and our power is beyond measure. Rise up in joy, in confidence, and in love, because in those energies is the greatest power of all and the truth of who we are.
Pulling a card at the beginning of the day can offer a glimpse of what lies ahead. Just as you might choose to begin your day with a few quiet moments spent in reflection or meditation, doing breathwork, connecting to divine guidance, journaling, or repeating affirmations, tarot can support a practice of mindfulness. The beauty of tarot is that it is as versatile as the intention you apply to it. We can ask the cards anything, after all.
If you practice meditation or yoga, you may find it helpful to do those first before tuning into the cards. If yoga, meditation, or some other method of quieting the mind is not part of your routine, you may find it beneficial to first sit with quiet intention as you hold the cards. You can ask a specific question, and you can also pull a card that reflects the overall energies of the day ahead. It is important to remember that the information you receive isn’t set in stone; it can change just as your choices can change. The card you draw is a reflection of one possible outcome. Remember that you are a powerful creator of your own reality, so if you receive an answer you’re not satisfied with, set the intention for what you would like to see happen. You can always ask for further guidance by pulling more cards after setting your intention and fine-tune the unfolding as you plan your ideal day.
Following this practice with visualization can be helpful. Sitting for even 5 or 10 minutes imagining—really seeing and feeling—the outcome you desire can be so powerful. Doing this daily can be life-changing. We can focus on a long-term goal, and use every day to take one step closer to that goal. A day at a time, a step at a time, we move closer to realizing our goals. Tarot can be valuable in answering our questions about possible outcomes as well. But it is important to remember to always tune into your intuition above all. How you feel about something is your emotional barometer and tells you whether something is a good idea or not.
Ultimately, we can never precisely predict the future, but we can prepare ourselves energetically. Setting intentions for what we want to happen is a powerful tool that we all have at our disposal. We can look at tarot like an ally, much like crystals are allies. Tarot can support us in tapping into the energies at hand as we make use of the power of our will to create the change we desire.
September brings exciting new beginnings as both fresh and long-awaited manifestations are coming into being. New partnerships and collaborations, as well as joyful celebrations with friends and community are all an important part of this month. Read on to find out what each week has in store for us, and for the guidance and overall energy that will carry us through the weeks ahead.
Q1: What is the overall energy of September?Page of Wands
The Page of Wands shows us learning to wield our power in new ways. We may be focusing on specific manifestations this month. Remembering that where thoughts go, energy flows can be useful, especially in light of the fact that what we think about informs our vibration, which in turn attracts more of the same to us. As Wands are associated with the element of fire, this suit is connected to our passion. What are you passionate about and what steps do you feel motivated to take? Paying attention to what feels good, what thrills you, can provide an indication of your next steps. This Page also indicates new beginnings and fresh starts. You may see new relationships, career-related goals, things, and circumstances that you’ve long wished for begin to show up this month. Watch as the seeds you planted, some long ago and some recently, begin to sprout. Be open to learning new things and to new possibilities. You are gaining footing in new and significant areas of your life.
Q2: Week 1 energy:Seven of Swords
A tarot reader once described this card to me as having a vacillating energy that can appear sometimes when we are caught up in indecision or when we are waffling back and forth. If you find yourself in that energy, it is important to really tune in and pay attention to your inner guidance as you lean into trusting yourself more. Watch for situations that show you areas of weakness, either in your thinking, emotions, or in your self-confidence. Believing in yourself and moving forward with inner strength, determination, and in the knowing of your worthiness brings you closer to your true inner power. Remember that you are a divine, magnificent being. You are truly powerful, and knowing your true inner strength and power opens up a world of possibilities. Life offers us a great palette of choices, and it is up to us what we choose to paint. Paying attention to what feels good can be helpful as you navigate choices; your emotional guidance system, as Abraham-Hicks refers to it, is a built-in mechanism that shows you which way to go.
Q3: Week 2 energy: Two of Cups
The Two of Cups points to emotional partnerships. This can be the co-creative partnership between you and your higher self. It can also indicate fruitful connections and emotional relationships between significant others, friends, family, co-workers, and employers. For some of you, a new job or career advancement may be on the horizon. New relationships are developing and existing ones are growing and reaching new levels. Nurturing relationships and connections is always beneficial, but especially so this week. Bonds are strengthening and deep healing may be taking place between you and others, especially in your emotional connections to one another. Honor those in your life simply by feeling into gratitude for the relationship, and that energy will not only be felt by the other, it will also be returned to you and will strengthen the energies between you.
Q4: Week 3 energy:Temperance
Be wise and practice discernment in all that you do. Connecting to your intuition and holding the intention of achieving a state of harmony will support you this week. Foster harmonious relationships by first embodying harmony in your thinking, and peace will follow. Practice patience with others and redirect your thoughts and energy toward compassion if you catch yourself in a judgmental space. Unity consciousness is important, and remembering that we all are one can be powerful; as each one of us is part of the collective, what one of us experiences is felt by all on some level. Reach for kindness and cooperation in your dealings with others, and be kind to yourself. Happy resolutions to long-stagnant situations may pleasantly surprise you. Look within this week and notice where inner growth is needed. Self-awareness is key as you navigate through life; notice where life is showing you opportunities for growth as you set your ego aside and make the decision to elevate your thinking and vibration, taking it moment by moment, situation by situation. As the number 14 card in the Major Arcana, Temperance is aligned with the creation of solid foundations: the number one indicates new beginnings and manifestations, and four carries the energies of strength, solidity, stability, and groundedness; by embodying harmony and peace, we create the outward manifestation of these, which sets us on solid ground and establishes strong foundations for our future.
Q5: Week 4 energy:Three of Cups
The Three of Cups has a celebratory energy that builds on the partnership energies of the Two of Cups from week 2, and on the energies of harmony and cooperation from week 3. This feels like a culmination of positive momentum that has been building throughout the month and reaches a happy fulfillment of celebratory energy and harmonious resolutions. This week ushers in fall in the Northern Hemisphere and spring in the Southern Hemisphere, and celebrations and gatherings are highlighted. Community, friends, family, and joyful collaborations are a significant part of this week. It is important to make time for happiness and fun, and allow yourself to enjoy the feelings of fulfillment. Soak in the nurturing energies of emotional warmth and joy, and allow them to strengthen and elevate your vibration. The more you raise your vibration, the higher you can soar.
Q6: Guidance from the Universe for September: King of Pentacles
The King of Pentacles carries the energies of power, strength, and material success. Much like the numerological interpretation of Temperance, this king also indicates solidity and stability. This is a very fortunate card to draw, and it informs the entire month of September. As the guidance card for the month, it encourages us to embody the energies and mindset this king represents. Embodiment of those energies can manifest in a variety of ways, whether that is practicing gratitude for job security, focusing on your leadership abilities, knowing that you are capable of manifesting wealth and financial security, appreciating figures of support in your life, or knowing your own strength. This card can also encourage us to take the long view and consider where investing in our future now might pay dividends later. As seeds are starting to sprout, start considering now the most fruitful outcomes and think about the highest and best possibilities for all that is becoming.
August is the eighth month, and the number eight in numerology carries the energies of abundance and expansion. The number eight is also the symbol of eternity or infinity turned upright, and signifies eternal abundance. The lemniscate, or infinity sign, appears in the tarot above the heads of The Magician and the figure on the Strength card in prominent decks, indicating that we are eternal beings and powerful creators of our own reality (The Magician) and have access to infinite wisdom (Strength). Strength appears in the reading for the fourth week of this month. Read on to find out what August has in store for the collective.
Q1: What is the overall energy of August? Two of Pentacles
Pentacles are associated with the material realm and are closely linked to our finances, home, career, and anything having to do with physical, earthly concerns. Twos relate to balance and partnerships, and the Two of Pentacles can come as guidance to maintain balance in our finances, work, and personal life, and it can also indicate the partnerships that impact those areas. August is a month of expansion that can bring new opportunities in just about every area of our lives. This could mean work and career opportunities, promotions, recognition, travel, and new partnerships that impact our finances, career, and creative endeavors. A second source of income is possible. You may find that you need to make a choice between two options; a new job offer could find you weighing your choices to make the decision that is best for you. Maintaining a good work-life balance is important, as is keeping a healthy balance in all areas of your life. Be sure to make time for yourself and to do things that bring you joy.
Q2: Week 1 energy: Ace of Swords
New ideas and ways of thinking show up for you this week. Newfound clarity is available to you. You have access to profound wisdom and insight by simply tuning in (through meditation, prayer, or simply sitting with your thoughts and holding the intention of receiving your highest guidance). You have access to higher knowledge at all times, and especially this week as the energies are supporting expanding clarity and understanding. This week has the potential to bring breakthroughs in your understanding and powerful, lightning-strike insights. Be ready for flashes of inspiration and sudden downloads of knowledge from the universe. Call on your high-vibrational allies and ask for their support in bringing through the highest understanding and clarity that will benefit and support you at this time. Strengthening your focus and sharpening your mental acuity are also highlighted this week. Be strong and unwavering when you know something is right for you; do not allow yourself to be influenced by other ideas and opinions that are not in alignment. Hold strong to the ideas that you know are right for you. Be sharp in your thinking and clear in your speech and communication.
Q3: Week 2 energy: Ten of Pentacles
Take pleasure in material comforts and in the knowing that the earth provides abundantly for all. Look to your family support system and your community in appreciation of the security and foundations they provide. The energies this week support abundance and good fortune, and new opportunities are likely to reach you now. Family, loved ones, sources of income, home, property, and land are sources of security and stability. Appreciating your foundations strengthens them. This week, set intentions for improving groundedness, stability, strengthening foundations, material comfort, and security. Look to your relationships with love, even those that are not strong, and they will be fortified, growing and healing and becoming stronger over time. Setting the intention that all relationships in your life are always strengthening, growing, and healing is powerful this week and beyond.
Q4: Week 3 energy: Knight of Wands
Expansion, positive change, relocation, shifts, and movement are all in focus this week. You may see new opportunities in terms of moving, work, and career, especially if you have set those intentions and have been actively seeking change in this area. Focusing your thoughts on what you want to manifest is always powerful, but it is key this week. This focus and clarity will help bring smooth, happy, joyful transitions and opportunities to you with ease. Entering into a flow state by connecting with your intuition and higher guidance is also highlighted, as it will help channel and direct the expanding energies into happy outcomes in a more powerful way. The energies this week are supporting joyful results, but aligning with what you desire to create guides the manifestation according to your vision. If you have been seeking adventure, this week is a good time to get away, take a vacation, or otherwise break from your usual routine.
Q5: Week 4 energy: Strength
Now is the time to channel your inner warrior. Hold strong this week, keep your boundaries secure, be self-aware, and note how your thoughts and decisions impact yourself and others. Stand strong, hold firm in your resolve, and steel your mind. Tune into your instincts. Do not be swayed by what is not right for you; do not even give it one second of your attention. Know your power. Connect to your higher self and tap into who you really are. Knowing yourself in your highest truth has a profound impact on your decisions, your understanding, and the ways in which you navigate the world. You have everything it takes to succeed. Do not take no for an answer. Go after what you want and pursue it with steady resolve until it is yours. Standing firmly in your power, you will show yourself what you are made of. Prepare to amaze yourself as you stretch and grow and expand the boundaries of what you thought was possible. By the end of this month you may be asking yourself: What limits?
Q6: Guidance from the universe for August: The Sun
The strong guidance this month is to stay focused on the positive. We are being asked to practice radical self-care by making choices that benefit us and improve our mindset and vibration. Raising our vibration allows us to show up in a more powerful way for ourselves and for others. Because your thoughts inform your vibration and draw to you whatever you are focusing on, it is so important to think about only what you want to see manifested in your life. We get to choose what we allow into our minds, and into our lives. There is plenty to focus on that is undesirable, and even more that can bring us joy. It begins with setting the intention. Our intention is so powerful because it guides the energy to wherever we are focused. Setting the intention to shift your mindset into positive thinking plants a seed that sets this change in motion. Shining a light on the thoughts that come up for us spotlights them in our awareness; if something isn’t helpful to you, noticing it helps shift it out of your awareness. You can then replace it with a preferred thought like I deserve happiness. Simply appreciating what is good raises your vibration, and there is so much to appreciate, if we only look.
June promises to be a powerfully transformative month filled with shake-ups, endings, revelations, empowerment, expansion, and fresh starts. Here’s what the cards have to say:
Q1: What is the overall energy of June? The Tower
This is a month of endings and subsequent new beginnings. Old energies are clearing out and certain infrastructures that are no longer working and those that have weak foundations are collapsing. Out with the old and in with the new is this month’s theme. It’s time to let go of the past and release anything we have been holding onto that has kept us feeling stuck or trapped, or that has limited us in any way as we recognize and clear any self-imposed limitations. We can call on our allies and ask for their support as we set the intention to clear, release, and transmute everything that does not serve our highest good and welcome in what does.
Q2: Week 1 energy: Nine of Wands
The Nine of Wands is a card that shows us still standing after the trials, chaos, and confusion. We may be bandaged and bruised, but we have won the battle. We are still alive, stronger and wiser for the experiences we have made it through. This card shows better times ahead but advises us to remain watchful and vigilant, and to stay on our guard to ensure we remain safe as we protect ourselves and those we love. This week, protect your energy and the energy of your home as well as your physical safety. Visualizing energetic barriers surrounding you and your loved ones is a recommended daily practice; call on Archangel Michael to assist you with strengthening this forcefield of protection. You can set up similar protections around your dwelling.
Q3: Week 2 energy: Ten of Cups
In a natural progression from the nine to the ten, the Ten of Cups shows us advancing beyond the energies represented by the Nine of Wands as we embrace emotional fulfillment, happiness, and abundance. We celebrate the joys of life and revel in the beauty that fills our hearts and surrounds us in the form of home, family, friends, peace of mind, joy, and the myriad other ways fulfillment can manifest for us. This card can indicate that we will see significant improvements in our situation and that things are shifting for us, and it also reminds us that we attract what we believe and think about; the more we recognize the abundance all around us and appreciate the things we have, the more those things will come to us. To assist us in protecting our energy and our living spaces, a positive, high-vibrational mindset supports us by attracting the good things in life.
Q4: Week 3 energy: King of Wands
This king is a leader who is passionate about his purpose and successful in all that he undertakes to do. This card shows success, fortune, and good things coming our way this week. The king can represent a person in your life who represents the qualities of the King of Wands; this can be an honest employer or leader, someone who is fair, wise, and kind. It can also show these qualities developing in you and indicate success in leadership as you spread your wings with confidence, knowing that you have what it takes to lead with skill, competence, honesty, wisdom, and fairness. Wands are aligned with the fire element and indicate manifestation, passion, and purpose.
Q5: Week 4 energy: The Sun
By the end of the month, many of us will see expansion, new opportunities, growth, freedom, and abundance. The sun is shining upon us, and life is good. We are enjoying the fullness of our lives and feeling fulfilled in many ways. We are seeing growth and the manifestation of the things we have been working toward creating as we build a better life for ourselves, fully supported by the Universal energies and our team in spirit. This card indicates unbridled happiness and joy, clarity, vitality, achievement, success, and confidence. We can make the most of this week’s energies by lining up with them vibrationally. It can be helpful to remember that we are able to receive only as much as we believe we can. If you don’t believe something is possible, it isn’t; if you believe that it is possible for you, then it is. We are powerful creators, divine beings who set the course of our own lives with our intention and our beliefs.
Q6: Guidance from the Universe for June: Four of Cups reversed
The Four of Cups tells us it would be to our greatest benefit this month to rest, to take time for ourselves, and to find a retreat. This could be in the form of daily walks, long baths, journaling, or meditation. It asks us to consider what is making us feel drained and what we can release, whether situations, commitments, or relationships that are no longer serving us. This month, we can ask ourselves questions like, What are we better without? What isn’t working for us? What is causing us undue stress? What saps our energy? What do we dread doing? This month, remember that you cannot give from an empty cup and prioritize your emotional well-being over all else, because it informs everything in your life. Go within and seek guidance from the Universe and your allies. Pay attention to your emotional guidance system; it’s your built-in compass and is there to help you navigate through life. What feels right? What sparks joy when you think about it? That may be the natural next step for you.
I am so excited to see what this month will bring! When I think about what’s ahead, I feel almost giddy with joy. That must be because a part of me knows that something good is coming. Better things, positive changes, are on the horizon. Sometimes it can be helpful to remember that certain situations can be blessings in disguise. When things don’t turn out as planned, it can be because there is something better in store for us, or that the circumstances are causing us to expand, grow, and learn, or the Universe is steering us toward better outcomes than we had planned. Be open to what comes your way, and follow the path of least resistance. Find things to enjoy in life, and let yourself experience freedom, if only in your heart and mind.
Tarot is a wonderful tool for understanding ourselves and the world in which we live, work, and play. We can use it for guidance on any conceivable subject. While I am a firm believer that it should be approached with trust and respect, we can use it to consult on anything that genuinely matters to us and for more general guidance in a given situation. It can help us to navigate with confidence and from a place of understanding the energies that are to come in the days and weeks ahead. In this way, it helps us to better prepare for what is on its way and to make any necessary adjustments.
Now more than ever, we have time to sit with our thoughts, to examine our lives, and consider where making changes would benefit us. Many of us have the opportunity to connect with ourselves and with our spirituality on deeper levels than perhaps ever before. There are many ways to strengthen our spiritual connection, including systems, beliefs, and practices that we may find beneficial to varying degrees. Meditation and yoga can help us practice mindfulness, center our thoughts and being-ness, and open to receive messages, guidance, and wisdom from the divine.
The beauty of using tarot to deepen that connection is that we can ask a question and receive an immediate answer, albeit one we may need to sit with for a while to fully comprehend. Tarot is a medium through which we can tap into understanding and wisdom that is only as limited as our capacity for interpretation. Best of all, when we approach the cards with reverence, trust, and from a centered state in which we intend to receive guidance that is for our highest good or to receive messages from the divine, our guides, or allies, we can connect with energies linked to source and draw from the well of infinite intelligence.
There are so many questions we can ask, depending on our needs and situation, that can help us strengthen our connection to source, our allies, the higher self, and to our own spirituality and intuition. Some of those might be, What guidance is available to me? How can I deepen my connection to source/my allies/my higher self/my intuition? How can I strengthen my trust? Tarot’s strength is in its versatility, which allows it to speak to us on many levels throughout our lives. Because it is based on archetypes that speak to the whole of human experience, it is a guiding light we can turn to anytime we need it.
If anything, this year has brought plenty by way of change. Here’s what the cards have to say about the month of May.
Q1: What is the overall energy of May? Queen of Pentacles
This queen rules the earthly realm and is a caretaker related to domesticity, finances, home and family, and all things material. She can also represent earthly pleasures and creature comforts of all kinds. This card indicates a focus on life’s necessities, on having what we need and procuring resources. It speaks to our financial well-being and prosperity, and all concerns related to these. As we continue to be homebound, it makes sense that our focus is on hearth and home, on providing for ourselves and those we care for, and ensuring our material and domestic needs are met. This card can also represent a motherly figure or caretaker of some kind, someone who is ensuring the comfort, well-being, and safety of those in her charge. Be sure to show her some extra love, kindness, and appreciation this month. And how appropriate; in the US, Mother’s Day is celebrated on May 10. This card is also related to Mother Earth, who provides for us in abundance every day of our lives. Let’s show her some extra love, too.
Q2: Week 1 energy (May 1-7): Seven of Cups
It’s interesting that in April’s reading, the week 4 card was also the Seven of Cups. This energy continues into the first week of May. This card is inward-looking and is very much about visualizing our desired outcomes. It’s a strong message to keep focusing on what we want and to keep visualizing, to keep daydreaming, as this is keeping our vibration at the desired state. Manifesting a better living situation? Spend time daily visualizing where you would rather be: see it, feel it, live it, breathe it, and otherwise fully immerse yourself in that place. This will keep your vibe high and help you to manifest what you want. Abraham-Hicks teaches that the Universe doesn’t know whether we are in the state at which we are vibrating or not; the Law of Attraction doesn’t make that distinction—it simply delivers whatever we are a vibrational match to.
Q3: Week 2 energy (May 8-14): Knight of Pentacles
Whereas knights can be messengers or can represent movement, this knight appears to be stalled. Money may be delayed or finances can be held up in some way. A message may be on its way to you but there could be delays or unforeseen circumstances preventing its timely delivery. Just know that it is on its way to you. If you start to feel discouraged, find something to celebrate. Celebrate your wins, your successes thus far. Acknowledge how far you have come and take heart in the fact that what you want is on its way to you, and that a world of possibilities is open to you, not just in the immediate future, but always, throughout your life. Trust the Universe and your internal guidance to help you navigate and show you the way to where you want to be. This knight can also come as encouragement to be steadfast and resolute, to not give up on our goals. He can indicate that we may be seeing gains but they are not as significant or rapid as we would like them to be. In that respect, we may best be served by continuing in practicality, focus, and unwavering determination.
Q4: Week 3 energy (May 15-21): Eight of Pentacles
This month is so focused on material needs, and it’s no wonder. We are all experiencing a collective upheaval that is rare enough. These unusual cirumstances place material concerns at the forefront, and the Eight of Pentacles indicates a welcome reprieve. It shows us reaping rewards for work well done. This is a card of material accomplishment, achievement, gain, and increase. This week, let’s focus on staying in receiving mode and not give attention to what isn’t there for us yet or what we don’t have, but instead appreciate what we do have, and find joy in every way possible. When you let go and give yourself over to laughter or a joyful conversation with friends or to hours lost in creative pursuits, it opens you up to receiving everything you’ve been asking for.
Q5: Week 4 energy (May 22-31): King of Swords
This king is pointing at all of the other cards for this month, and he is closest in proximity to the Eight of Pentacles; it looks as though he is pointing directly at it, as if to say, I brought this forward. And indeed he may have, or may be. The King of Swords can be a judge, justice, lawyer, legal figure, or decision-maker of some kind, and he can also represent someone who is in the arena of communication and thought who is further up the scale, a leader in his field. This figure may have an impact on your life in some way, and he may be directly related to bringing forth the financial abundance and rewards indicated in the Eight of Pentacles. On a practical level, this can indicate a raise, new job, promotion, award, recognition, or legal ruling in your favor. It can also come as advice to take charge of a matter, especially regarding paperwork, contracts, or legalities, or to step into a position of leadership.
Q6: Guidance from the Universe: Wheel of Fortune
Whereas the Minor Arcana cards, which comprise all the other cards in this reading, indicate earthly matters—transient and temporal concerns that are passing through our lives, rather impermanent in the grand scheme of things—the Major Arcana, of which The Wheel of Fortune is a part, indicate karmic and universal forces at play. The Wheel of Fortune’s upright position in this reading tells us that there will be a major turn of events in our favor, and essentially, that fortune is smiling upon us. Things really are always working out for us. Even when circumstances look grim, we can ask what they are there to teach us. This card is an indicator that a major upswing is taking place for us, which, being that this month is so pentacle-heavy, could have to do with earthly concerns and matters material. Being that this is a reading for the collective, this upswing is taking place on a broader scale. This card indicates that there will be a major shift and events are turning in our favor.
It may be worth noting that, in the image above, after I arranged the cards in place, a band of sunlight made its way across them before I took the photo. Note that, in the weekly energy reading cards for this month, the sunlight seems to increase at it spans across those four cards, becoming widest as it reaches the fourth week’s card. The Universe communicates with us in all sorts of ways, and this lovely visual metaphor is no exception. It indicates that the light is increasing througout the month of May, expanding us in our own truth and light, and bringing more light, hope, happiness, and promise into our lives as the month goes on. Thank you, Universe.
