When we consider that everything is energy, including ourselves, it gives us an understanding of how easy it is to be affected by the things we read, the conversations we hear, and the potential impact of the invisible world around us. Because we are energy, we can also absorb energy. And although we cannot see it in the form of feelings, thoughts, and emotions, these energies are very real and a crucial part of the fabric that weaves our reality together. It almost goes without saying that it is important to protect our energy. Even more so in times of difficulty or adjustment, and especially during periods of upheaval and massive global shifts like we are experiencing now. If you are sensitive to energy, the need to protect yourself multiplies.
I recommend clearing your energy field during meditation on a daily basis and anytime you begin feeling heavy or weighed down. When we absorb energies that do not belong to us, we can experience this as anxiety or sadness or anger, or any emotion that seems to arrive out of the blue. We may also start feeling uncomfortable but cannot pinpoint exactly why, and this could be because we have picked up on something that is not our own. It is so important for our mental and emotional health that we clear anything that does not belong to us and keep our field clear by putting up a protective barrier that we reinforce on a regular basis to shield us against anything that is not for our highest good.
There are several ways to create this barrier. One powerful method is through visualization. You can enter a quiet, reflective space with no distractions around you and visualize an energetic forcefield surrounding you past the outer layer of your aura. Try visualizing this as a sphere with a strong external layer like a thick shell that surrounds you and fills your aura with golden light. Gold is a high-vibrational color that can strengthen your protection and bring you healing and peace. You can set the intention that the only energies that may enter your field are those that are for your highest good, and nothing else may enter. As you make this visualization part of your daily practice, you solidify the barrier more and more with your belief and intention, and in the process, you become better at visualization, which, like many things, improves with practice.
Just as we engage in rituals of physical cleanliness on a regular basis, protecting our energy is an important part of self-care that ensures our energetic cleanliness. In this way, we can make sure we are always our best (and truest) selves as we navigate through life and interact in our relationships, in our careers, and in the way we show up in the world.
