Sixteen years ago, I left the desert and never looked back. Since then, I’ve gained an appreciation for the austerity of that landscape that has been largely brought about by time, distance, and perspective. The desert is purifying, a place stripped bare, pared down to the essentials. Its energy too has a way of peeling back layers, dissolving everything that isn’t needed, whatever doesn’t serve, all excess and unnecessary energy. In this process, the desert poses several questions: Do you need it, is it helpful, is it weighing you down, is it holding you back, why are you still carrying it, what lessons have you learned from it, what wisdom is yours to keep?
Nature is deeply healing, without question. Lush, fragrant forests rich with moss and deep green chambers flow through the heart and give balm to the spirit. In the ocean, a yoga teacher once told me, every crashing wave holds all the sounds the human body needs to hear, sounds that clear us and heal us through sonic frequencies. The mountains bring clarity and perspective; they challenge heart and mind to ascend, to be more, to rise above, to consider the importance of all we hold dear, to sort the wheat from the chaff. Every landscape holds a different energy. Cities, states, countries, have their own energy, and certainly different landscapes do, too.
These different landscapes are healing spaces that interact with us on another level, one we don’t consciously sense. It’s atoms talking to atoms, energy flowing into energy. For those reasons, we may be drawn to certain areas in nature without understanding exactly why. It’s important that we trust our natural instinct, our desire to be in those places, and to follow our heart there. They have unique wisdom to impart to us, a particular sort of healing. To commune with nature is to connect to a greater aspect of the divine, of which we are all a part.
When we consider that everything is energy, including ourselves, it gives us an understanding of how easy it is to be affected by the things we read, the conversations we hear, and the potential impact of the invisible world around us. Because we are energy, we can also absorb energy. And although we cannot see it in the form of feelings, thoughts, and emotions, these energies are very real and a crucial part of the fabric that weaves our reality together. It almost goes without saying that it is important to protect our energy. Even more so in times of difficulty or adjustment, and especially during periods of upheaval and massive global shifts like we are experiencing now. If you are sensitive to energy, the need to protect yourself multiplies.
I recommend clearing your energy field during meditation on a daily basis and anytime you begin feeling heavy or weighed down. When we absorb energies that do not belong to us, we can experience this as anxiety or sadness or anger, or any emotion that seems to arrive out of the blue. We may also start feeling uncomfortable but cannot pinpoint exactly why, and this could be because we have picked up on something that is not our own. It is so important for our mental and emotional health that we clear anything that does not belong to us and keep our field clear by putting up a protective barrier that we reinforce on a regular basis to shield us against anything that is not for our highest good.
There are several ways to create this barrier. One powerful method is through visualization. You can enter a quiet, reflective space with no distractions around you and visualize an energetic forcefield surrounding you past the outer layer of your aura. Try visualizing this as a sphere with a strong external layer like a thick shell that surrounds you and fills your aura with golden light. Gold is a high-vibrational color that can strengthen your protection and bring you healing and peace. You can set the intention that the only energies that may enter your field are those that are for your highest good, and nothing else may enter. As you make this visualization part of your daily practice, you solidify the barrier more and more with your belief and intention, and in the process, you become better at visualization, which, like many things, improves with practice.
Just as we engage in rituals of physical cleanliness on a regular basis, protecting our energy is an important part of self-care that ensures our energetic cleanliness. In this way, we can make sure we are always our best (and truest) selves as we navigate through life and interact in our relationships, in our careers, and in the way we show up in the world.
Now more than ever, it is important for us to focus on healing. Everyone, including light workers, has an obligation to do the inner work, to heal ourselves first, before we show up for anyone else, and to notice, on an ongoing basis, what comes to the surface to be processed and cleared, to be acknowledged and healed. It is so important that when we are done processing and clearing, we invite the energies we wish to embody, such as peace, healing, and divine light, or whatever it is we need. Compassion is something that is so needed right now and, like any other energy we invite in, we can set the intention of integrating it into our field. There are many ways to do this, but here is one meditation that works for me. Of course, you can adjust it as you like.
To begin, go to a quiet space where you will have privacy (away from distractions and furry friends). To enter the meditative space, sit comfortably with your eyes closed and focus on your breath. Breathe deeply and envision your energy field as a sphere that surrounds you past the outer layer of your aura, which extends past the tips of your fingers when you have your arms outstretched. Breathe in light, then exhale it into your field. Do this for as long as you need to fill your energy field entirely with light. Then imagine this sphere of energy surrounded with a layer of protection. You can set the intention that this protective layer allows in only energies that serve your highest good, and that all else immediately bounces off and is returned to sender via Source. I recommend re-energizing and strengthening this boundary every day.
Once you feel your protective layer is stabilized, you can envision low-vibrational energies and energies that do not serve your highest good clearing and releasing. If specific situations come to mind, know that they are rising to the surface to be released. Notice any energy you feel. You can release unwanted energies by naming them specifically; for example, you can say (to yourself is fine) something like, “I clear and release all energies of anxiety.” Or, “I release this situation with love. It is no longer part of my energy and it is now cleared and transmuted.” If you can feel energy, you may feel a physical sensation of something lifting from you each time you do this. You can call on your allies to support as you go through the energies and situations one at a time and ask that they transmute the energy into the highest form of light. When you feel clear, you can invite the energies of healing, peace, divine light, and compassion, or any energies you choose, and set the intention that they integrate into your field (your allies will help with this).
Once you feel the energy is stable, you can begin to send healing to the planet by envisioning, setting the intention, or asking your allies to release all energies from the planet that do not serve the highest good of humanity and ask that they are transmuted into the highest possible form of light. You can then send peace, healing, and compassion to everyone around the world. I like to envision this as light surrounding the entire globe that sends the energy to everyone who is willing to receive it. You can ask your allies, the universal forces, the angels, Source, or whomever you feel guided to call on to support you in sending out and integrating this energy.
One type of healing that is so needed right now is ancestral. When we enter into a physical body, we also enter into a family lineage whose past experiences are encoded into our DNA. With that lineage comes family karma. We can set the intention to clear and release family karma and clear ancestral energies that do not serve our highest good, and to clear the energies that are ready to be released, that do not have any place on the planet, that are holding us back from elevating into our highest path and potential, and that are keeping us from living in alignment and in our highest truth. Archangel Michael is a powerful ally to call on when performing this type of clearing, but of course, you can call on any allies you wish. Doing this work in the meditative space helps to focus the mind and our efforts so that we can draw on our power to release these energies from ourselves and from the planet for good as we welcome in healing, unity, and compassion.
We are all one, and the more we realize that we are all in this together as spiritual beings experiencing a human existence, the more we will be able to heal and make powerful forward progress, so that we can expand and grow as individuals and as a collective. When we look at others through this lens of oneness, we experience life differently. We have more compassion and are more willing to help others because we understand that the good of one is the good of all.
